There are many reasons why teeth can become discolored over time.

Some include:

  • Our teeth can become discolored due to staining from food and beverages such as coffee, tea, and, wine.
  • Smoking can cause discoloration

Whatever the reason may be that caused the discoloration, the main reason people choose to get their teeth whitened is to attain a more beautiful and bright smile.

Is teeth whitening right for you?

Professional bleaching is the most usual method of tooth whitening. The dental team at University Place Smiles have great experience in professional teeth whitening.

First, a comprehensive oral exam is required before whitening. This is because we need to make sure that teeth are free of cavities and infections prior to starting the whitening process.

The Teeth Whitening Process

The whitening process will be as follows: We will apply a layer of protective gel on your gums to ease the sensitivity. We will then apply the whitening serum to the teeth and let it do its magic for 15 minutes. Our whitening treatments includes two 15-minute sessions.

Be aware that the whitening treatment can cause some sensitivity that can last for 1 or 2 weeks. You can expect your teeth to be 1 to 3 shades lighter after your treatment.

It is advised to not drink dark-colored foods or drinks such as coffee, tea, wine, etc. Whitening lasts about 6 months but highly depends on the patient’s diet and oral hygiene.
